To celebrate 30 dynamic years in Canberra, Canberra Dance Theatre presents a beautiful and unique dance performance in the NGA Sculpture Garden on the tranquil shores of Lake Burley Griffin.
The performance, created by Artistic Director Meg Millband, will feature some of Canberra's most talented dancers alongside some of the most spectacular Australian works of art including Auguste Rodin, The burghers of Calais 1885-86 and the Fujiko Nakaya, Fog Sculpture 1976.
Canberra Dance Theatre is pleased to work with Installation Artist Ruth Hingston and Media Artist Tim Brook on Enduring Intimacy. Please visit their website for more information on the performance and their respective work. Click Here.
The performance includes two distinct dance works – Transient Rooms and Enduring Intimacy.
Transient Rooms takes place in the intimate ‘rooms’ of the Spring and Summer gardens. It commences in the grove of casuarinas facing Nakaya’s Fog sculpture. During the performance, the audience will stroll through the woodland, to discover both professional and community dancers responding to the environment of the intimate ‘rooms’ of the sculpture garden.
Seating is not provided for this dance work – please bring a collapsible chair if you are unable to stand for long periods. Sturdy shoes are recommended as the ground surface is uneven.
Enduring Intimacy is a collaborative dance work with professional dancers and musicians performing through projected images and art installations. It takes place in the slate forecourt of the Winter garden alongside of Rodin’s Burghers of Calais.
Tiered seating will be provided. Please note that the lighting will be at low levels throughout this performance.
Please bring a picnic dinner to enjoy during interval. The garden restaurant bar will be open for coffee and beverages. Dinners will not be served.
Take care entering and exiting the NGA particularly around the building works at the NGA and adjoining National Portrait Gallery.
Follow the signs for car parking.
